Biography of the authors
Hana Danihelkova is an expert in adult education
who studied at the University
of Olomouc. She has
participated in the EU educational programme Socrates, coordinating 3 projects
of which one received an award from the Evens Foundation in Belgium. Hana
is a member of Grundtvig Working Group in Brussels
and as a promoter of the Grundtvig action in the Czech Republic
she actively supports the development of adult education in this country.
Koen DePryck received his Masters Degree in philosophy from the University of Gent
(Belgium) and his PhD from
the University of Texas at Dallas.
After a career as a researcher for the Fund for Scientific Research-Flanders
and as lecturer in philosophy, epistemology, systems analysis, databases and
programming he was appointed Principal and CEO of the Centre for Adult
Education Antwerpen-Zuid. He heads the Institute
of Knowledge Management in Brussels. He has authored
or co-authored several books and articles and lectures worldwide on the
evolutionary aspect of learning and learning difficulties, the design, and
management of learning environments and the implementation of ODL. He
also designs and programs educational software and tools for learning
organisations.
Kerttu Lõhmus is an
e-learning consultant and member of the board of Ärireklaam Ltd (www.eprojekt.ee). She has a background in
information studies and experience in adult education since 1996 and in the
field of e-learning since 2000, with the main focus on instructional methods
and content design. Her day-to-day work includes creating (together with
subject matter experts) instructionally sound study materials to aid maximum
learning effect.
Rosa
Maria Miranda graduated from
the Technical University of Lisbon in metallurgical engineering and has a PhD
in mining engineering. She is a professor in the sciences education department
of Universidade Aberta and a researcher at the Centre for Studies in Education
and Innovation (CEEI - Universidade Aberta). She has been involved in the
development of quality system for assessing quality in distance UCE courses
since 2000 and has participated in accreditation activities of university
degree courses from 1998 to 2004. She
was responsible to the ANB at ISQ accredited by the EWF and IIW according to
ISO 9000. She is author or co-author of more than 60 scientific publications,
including five textbooks.
Alda Maria Pereira is a graduate of Coimbra
University in physics and chemistry,
has a Masters Degree in education from Lisbon University
and a PhD in Education from Universidade Aberta. She is Head of the sciences education
department, a professor in the same unit and a researcher at the Centre for
Studies in Education and Innovation (CEEI - Universidade Aberta). Her research is in the fields of visual
semiotics in educational communication, the pedagogy of distance and online education, and models and methods of teaching,
particularly in respect of science teaching.
Pia Melchior Petersen is a lecturer in adult education at CVU FYN and works with adult
teacher training domestically and abroad. She gained a masters in pedagogy,
from the Danish Pedagogical University
in 2004.
Sirje Plaks works for the Association of Estonian Adult Educators as a project
co-ordinator. She co-ordinates national Adult Learners Week concerning
dissemination of the idea of life-long learning involving communication with
various organisations
and people. Her previous experience as a
training manager and as a creator of her own training centre have benefited her
present job. She graduated from Tartu
University with a diploma
in administrative law.
Pamela Roccio is the Childcare Co-ordinator in Edinburgh University
Settlement's 2nd Chance to Learn programme. Her academic background
includes psychology, social policy, sociology, and forensic medicine and
science. Pamela also coordinates a project placing childcare modules online.
Rachel Savage was the Core Skills Co-ordinator in
Edinburgh University
Settlement's 2nd Chance to Learn programme. She has a background in the
social sciences. At the time of writing she was Edinburgh University
Settlement's Communication and Research Officer involved in marketing,
budgeting and publicity for
all of EUS's projects.
Rikke Schultz became master in pedagogy in 1998 from the Royal Danish
Academy of Education, and
she was qualified as lector in didactic in 2001. She works with teacher
training in adult as well as in general education, and she works in CVU FYN’s
knowledge centre with competence development and in service training. Earlier
she has been working with integration programmes for immigrants in Denmark, introduction of new technology for
women, and as a teacher in general subjects at Odense Technical
College. She has since
1977 been an active member of The Danish Organisation for International
Corporation, in Denmark
known as MS. She is an active member of the board of the AWE-chapter in Denmark
(Association for World Education), an organisation with adviser status to
UNESCO.
António Moreira Teixeira is a graduate of Lisbon University
in philosophy and has a Masters Degree and PhD also in philosophy from the same
university. He is a Professor in the Universidade Aberta’s educational sciences
department in Lisbon, and a researcher at both
the Centre for Studies in Education and Innovation (CEEI - Universidade Aberta)
and the Philosophy Centre at Lisbon
University. He has been involved in the design and
development of a quality system for continuous evaluation of distance learning
courses since 2000 and has taken part in external evaluation panels for the
Portuguese national university evaluation council (CNAVES) since 1997, being
responsible for the production of all reports on philosophy courses. He also
gave lectures as part of training workshops for future CNAVES evaluation
experts and teaches the subject of systems evaluation at Universidade Aberta.
He is the author or co-author of over 30 scientific publications.
Lone
Guldbrandt Tønnesen is
a lecturer in history; she is Coordinator for Distance Learning at CVU
FYN/Odense Lærerseminarium.
Sophie Van der Avort
received her Masters Degree in Romance languages from the University
of Antwerp (Belgium). Since 2001, she has
been Vice-Principal of the Centre for Adult Education Antwerpen-Zuid where she
is in charge of human resources and academic affairs. She is currently actively
involved in the implementation of ODL and in the introduction of a virtual
community for the staff of the centre.
Sven Van Elst worked for the Centre for Language and Speech at the University of Antwerp
(Belgium)
from 1994 until 2004. During this period he was mainly involved in the
management of EU projects and the development of ODL materials for foreign
language acquisition.
At present he is working as the
personal assistant of an MP in the Belgian Chamber of Representatives.
